More information makes it appear that LeBron James won’t be re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.

The main reason he’s not believed to be coming back has to do with a growing problem between the basketball superstar and owner Dan Gilbert.

Bleacher Report reported the following:

The belief is that Gilbert, having reasserted control after chasing out Griffin, will rebuff James’ request for a no-trade clause, or any other measures that give him leverage. And that will be enough to drive James away.

“Dan Gilbert’s not going to do what it takes to keep him,” the same source predicted. “Not a chance in hell he’s going to give him a no-trade clause, or let him dictate contract terms.”

Let me be crystal clear on this. Gilbert is a moron if he is willing to let LeBron James, the best player in the NBA, walk over a no-trade clause. I’m having a hard time putting into words how stupid of a move that is on Gilbert’s part.

The Cavaliers have next to no leverage in this situation. Pretty much zero. You know who does have all the leverage? LeBron. Every single team in the league would take him in a heartbeat. He can choose to go wherever he wants.

It’s stunning to me that Gilbert can be so dumb that he would let the best player of my generation walk away over a no-trade clause. How is that even possible? He should give LeBron whatever he wants, and be thankful he’ll still play for him.

Dan Gilbert will go down as one of the biggest idiots in the history of sports if he actually lets LeBron go over a no-trade clause, and it won’t even be close.
