Donald Trump just wants to “Keep America Great,” but unfortunately someone beat him to the punch and may force the President to coin a new slogan for his 2020 re-election campaign.

According to documents obtained by The Blast, Trump’s 2020 slogans “Keep America Great” and “Keep America Great!” (with an exclamation point) have been officially suspended by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

An attorney on behalf of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc filed the applications on January 18, 2017 … two days before Trump was sworn in as the 45th President. He also revealed that he would be using the slogan when he runs for re-election, after winning in 2016 with the famous “Make America Great Again.”

However, two people had already beaten Trump to the filing. Andreas Mueller, who works in CA Governor Jerry Brown’s office as the Chief of Federal Policy for the California Military Department, filed to use the slogan for T-shirts and sunglasses in June 2016.

Another man from Florida, named Patrick Goux, filed for “Keep Our America Great” on January 5, 2017 … 13 days before Trump. The examining attorney on Goux and Trump’s applications felt the marks could be confused with Mueller’s, so they were both suspended.

In an interesting turn of events, Mueller abandoned his application on January 19, 2018 for unknown reasons, however Goux’s application still stands and he has Trump beat on the timing of his filing.

If Trump and his re-election campaign truly want to Keep America Great through 2020, they must find a way to get Goux to drop his application, or find another slogan stat.
