Director Kevin Smith sent a message to fans Tuesday from his hospital bed after suffering what he called a “massive heart attack” on Sunday night.

“I felt a little nauseous and then I tried to lay down on the floor,” the 47-year-old comedian and actor explained in a video he shared on Facebook. “I wound up getting ill, like threw up, but mostly bile, so I just thought, like, you know, I got some bad milk.”

Smith explained that after he laid down and it became difficult to breath, he knew it was time to call the doctors, but never thought he was having a heart attack even though his father died of a massive heart attack at 67.

“So, I just thought about everything and thought about like, my parents and how they raised me, and my brother and my sister and my friends and my wife and my kid and this weird wonderful career that I’ve had for so long and stuff,” the “Clerks” director explained as he got a little choked up.

“And I was like content,” he added. “Like it was weird, I don’t know how to say it–I didn’t want to die, don’t get me wrong– but I was like, well, if the fairy man comes tonight I got to pay him. Like, what a ride its been, what an incredible fucking ride. So, there was calm.”
