Europe’s top Tinder rival will debut in the U.S. on Tuesday, bringing a slower approach to online dating

Euro-based dating app Once focuses on the concept of “slow dating,” giving users one match per day compared to Tinder, which offered users an infinite number of choices, according to the New York Post. This four-year-old app is rated number one in the number of downloads on Google Play in Europe.

The dating app adheres to a specific algorithm designed to match users based on their age, location, interests and education. It allows women to rate their conversations during dating, appearance accuracy and dates. It claims to be safer in preventing the concept of scams via the formula.

“The idea that you need to swipe an infinite amount of times per day to ensure your best chances of finding a match is passé and doesn’t leverage the latest machine learning technology,” app CEO and co-founder Jean Meyer said. Meyer also noted the app is specifically designed for people looking for a serious relationship.

The European dating app also led a US-based survey: out of 1, 500 single women ages 18 and older, 80 percent of women stop using apps such as Tinder due to dealing with men’s inapropriate behavior. Another 40 percent of women deal with fatigued index-fingers over mercilessly swiping right or left on the apps, according to PR Newswire.

“At Once, we’re focused on happily ever after, not instant gratification,” Meyer added.

Once has more than six million users in seven countries.
