CNN political analyst David Gregory said it was logical for special counsel Robert Mueller to look into President Donald Trump’s past financial deals and suggested the Russian government may have blackmail on the him, Wednesday on “New Day.”

Host Chris Cuomo asked Gregory if it was “fair play” for Mueller to look back on how Trump made his money, and Gregory said it was a no-brainer.

“Of course it’s fair play,” Gregory said. “I think there is no question. Anybody looking at this thinks the greatest area of vulnerability is a potential financial entanglement, that somehow means that the Russians have something on President Trump.”

Gregory quickly admitted he was only speculating, but said these were questions worth asking.

“Now that may just be speculation,” Gregory concluded. “But how in a long history of involvement in Russia and around the world, do you not look at that as an investigator when you have this event that happens around this candidate?”
