Joe Scarborough used the shooting of Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise to push his political agenda Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” accusing the Republican politician of having radical beliefs on the Second Amendment.

Scarborough said President Donald Trump shouldn’t be praised for supporting background checks and then pivoted to bashing Scalise and the National Rifle Association (NRA).

“A new poll came out in Florida with overwhelming support for background checks and the majority supporting assault-style weapon bans, and the same thing with every nationwide poll,” Scarborough said. “So the president looks really courageous there until you realize that when he supports Toomey’s bill he’s supporting what 90 percent of Americans support. And even when he wanders into assault-style bans, two out of three Americans support that position too.”

“The NRA and the Republicans, including Steve Scalise who was a victim of gun violence, they are on — I mean, they are the 10 percent in a lot of these — these issues,” Scarborough concluded.
