NRA-ILA executive director Chris Cox said on Thursday that he had a “great meeting” with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence and that both support due process for gun owners.

Trump startled some conservatives on Wednesday when he said he wants to take people’s “guns first, go through due process second” if they appear to have mental health issues. (RELATED: Tucker And GOP Reps Rip Trump Over Due Process Comments)

However, Cox tweeted after his meeting with Trump and Pence that they support due process and aren’t interested in gun control.

“We all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people,” Cox wrote. “POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, strong due process and don’t want gun control.”
