Trump said in a speech in 2011, “So easy. I drop a 25 percent tax on China.”

“And you know I said to somebody that is really the messenger — the messenger is important. I could have one man say ‘We’re going to tax you 25 percent’ and I can say another, ‘Listen, you motherfuckers, we’re gonna tax you 25 percent.'”

“You’ve said the same exact thing, but it’s a different message,” he added.

The president previewed new tariffs on steel and aluminum Thursday.

“What’s been allowed to go on for decades is disgraceful,” he said during a meeting with industry leaders at the White House. “And when it comes to a time when our country can’t make aluminum and steel, and somebody said it before and I will tell you, you almost don’t have much of a country.”

“Because without steel and aluminum, your country is not the same. We need it. We need it even for defense, if you think, we need it for defense,” he said. (RELATED: Trump Announces New Tariffs On Aluminum And Steel)
