CNN’s Chris Cuomo exploded on ACLU chair Matt Schlapp during an interview Monday, insisting that if he wanted to call someone a liar he would “do it right to your face.”

Cuomo asked Schlapp about the recent “drama” in the White House, and Schlapp argued that the chaos has subsided since Gen. John Kelly became chief of staff.

“Kelly’s right in the middle of it saying he didn’t know these things, which is so hard to believe, Matt,” Cuomo countered.

“I don’t think you should call the General a liar, I don’t think that’s appropriate,” Schlapp said.

Cuomo protested that he never used the word “liar,” and had a near meltdown on air as he insisted he would never shy away from the word if he meant it.

“You know me well enough, if I want to call you a liar I’ll do it right to your face and there’ll be a smile on mine,” Cuomo said intensely, “so it’s not about my desire to call somebody something or not.”
