A pro-life pregnancy center now occupies the grounds of a large, former Planned Parenthood clinic in Michigan, marking a significant win for the pro-life community.

Family Life Services (FLS) looked to take over Planned Parenthood’s Ypsilanti, Mich., property upon its closing in 2014, but FLS didn’t have the resources necessary to move into a large facility. Moving to a larger clinic became paramount for the pregnancy center after its numbers grew from 800 clients a year to 1,200, according to The Christian Post.

FLS accumulated the means to move into the former Planned Parenthood location and signed the building’s lease on Good Friday in 2017. They had support from the community and a myriad of donations. “It’s really neat to see how God was leading this story together for years and years,” Family Life Services Executive Director Karalee Robison said, according to the Christian Post.

The new center will have three exam rooms, three counseling rooms, and new cabinets as well as carpet and countertops. “We’re just really excited to really be in the neighborhood that most of our clients are living in now,” Robison said. “We’ve had overwhelmingly positive and excited response from our supporters.”

Others have not been welcoming of the pregnancy center’s move, viewing it as an affront to Planned Parenthood supporters and those who advocate for women’s rights. Many of FLS’s bus ads have been painted over and covered in graffiti in response, according to Robinson.

A Lansing, Mich., Diocese priest went to the site and performed an exorcism before FLS began the reconstruction of the building “This is when we dedicated the building to the Lord and really changed it,” Robinson said, describing a new sense of peace and joy she felt when entering the building after the priest finished.

Planned Parenthood announced it will spend $20 million dollars in states with upcoming Senate and governor races where Democrats are likely to win. The abortion group will focus on eight states — Michigan is one. The other seven states on Planned Parenthood’s list include Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Ten states account for 60 percent of all Planned Parenthood facilities in America — Michigan is among them.
