MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough referred to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on steel as “witchcraft economics” Wednesday on “Morning Joe,” only seconds after one of his guests called it “dumbass economics.”

Scarborough was interviewing Daniel Drezner, professor of International Politics at Tufts University, when Drezner attacked Trump’s plan as “absurd.”

“The notion that free trade just benefits effete intellectuals on the coast is absurd,” Drezner said. “The fact is the trade partnership which has produced the first analysis of what these tariffs will do suggests it’ll create a net loss of 150,000 jobs, primarily in the manufacturing industry.”

“Last I checked they’re still using industries in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin as well,” he continued. “So the idea this is somehow a net gain is absolutely absurd. It’s dumbass economics.”

“Well, oh, okay,” co-host Mika Brzezinski responded awkwardly. “Dumb ass. That’s a new one.”

“This is not voodoo economics, it’s witchcraft economics,” Scarborough chimed in. “And yes, it will help maybe 150,000, 200,000 people across America. It will hurt 300,325 million people whose cost of living goes up.”
