The Biggest Upsets In March Madness History [SLIDESHOW]

The first round of March Madness tips off midday Thursday after the “first four” play-in games went down Tuesday. Countless brackets will be busted before that first round is even over, which is arguably the best part of March Madness: any given team can win.

There tends to be at least one major Cinderella upset every year, and sometimes it comes against a big-name team predicted by experts to win it all. Even better are the rare occasions when a team that has a major upset in the first round has continued success, and upsets more teams, making their way to the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and even the Final Four.

There’s no way of knowing who it could be this year, but Duke seems like a safe choice, considering Coach K’s Blue Devils seem to either win it all or get knocked out in the first couple rounds. Some teams who appear on this list are playing big-name teams again this year.
