Former Vice President Joe Biden took a shot at President Trump on Saturday by saying that he “dumbs down” American values.
During a campaign speech for North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, Biden called Trump out for what he believed to be the mocking of individuals based on their looks and disabilities.
“How someone in the highest office in America can look at some and make fun of that they have a disability, or make fun of their weight or make fun of how they look,” said Biden, according to Grand Forks Herald reporter Sam Easter.
Biden continued, “Think about how that dumbs down the values that we Americans have.”
During the campaign and even as president, President Trump has not shied away from mocking reporters and critics. President Trump drew criticism after many people accused him of mocking a disabled reporter during a 2015 campaign rally.
Trump later responded to the criticism in an interview, saying, “I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago.”
Biden’s name has been floated as a challenger to President Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
