A new children’s book in India tells kids Adolf Hitler is a leader who will “inspire you,” the New York Times reported Saturday.
B. Jain Publishing Group, an Indian publishing company, is facing backlash after its book “Leaders” features 11 world leaders, including Hitler, who “devoted their lives for the betterment of their country and people,” reported the New York Post. The cover of “Leaders,” referred to as “Great Leaders” on the website, features former President Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Hitler, according to a description on the publishing company’s website.
“Dedicated to the betterment of countries and people? Adolf Hitler? This description would bring tears of joy to the Nazis and their racist neo-Nazi heirs,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, according to NYT. The Jewish humanitarian organization called for the publishing company to remove the $2 book from its website and stores.
“Placing Hitler alongside truly great political and humanitarian leaders is an abomination that is made worse as it targets young people with little or no knowledge of world history and ethics,” added Cooper. The description on the website also calls Hitler an “amazing leader.”
Annshu Juneja, a publishing manager part of the Indian publishing company, explained that Hitler was included on the cover since he got people to attend his speeches by masses and his leadership skills, similar to Obama and Mandela.
“We are not talking about his way of conduct or his views or whether he was a good leader or a bad leader but simply portraying how powerful he was as a leader,” added Juneja.
It is unclear who wrote the book.
