Barbra Streisand blamed having a big nose on why she never experienced sexual harassment in Hollywood, she said at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles on Friday.
Streisand, 75, joked that her big nose protected her from sexual harassment at a talk about her life as an actress, comedian, and singer. While she claims that she never faced sexual abuse, she praised the #MeToo movement and feminism for bringing light to sexism in Hollywood, reported Page Six.
“Never … I wasn’t like those pretty girls with those nice little noses. Maybe that’s why” Streisand joked when asked if she ever faced sexual abuse in Hollywood. The popular performer also praised the power of protest and women who take the time to call out the alleged wage gap in the industry.
“We’re in a strange time now in terms of men and women and the pendulum swinging this way and that way, and it’s going to have to come to the center,” Streisand added.
The renowned performer previously spoke out about her big nose saying that she was criticized for looking “too Jewish.” Streisand added that she was offered a nose job but refused since she was afraid of pain, reported the Daily Mail in 2016.
The Mahafaly tribe of Southern Madagascar also allegedly worships Streisand’s nose, claiming that it has special powers, British ethnographer Phillip Branwell told the Huffington Post in 2010.
