Amber Rose recently had one of the hottest takes you’ll ever hear about suicide and music.

Rose, who has a child with Wiz Khalifa, ranted on Instagram after people criticized her son and apparently called him gay for being a Taylor Swift fan.

According to Page Six, she wrote the following on her Instagram story, “Shoutout to all the hypermasculine men and dumb ass women that will call a five-year-old gay for liking Taylor Swift. This is why young kids kill themselves. And this is why our society is so f***ed up.”

Yeah, I’m going to have to go out on a limb here and say this is a major overreaction from Rose, who has gained serious notoriety for promoting slut walks. First off, I feel like the idea people accuse fans of Taylor Swift of being gay is completely a non-issue.

The country/pop icon has millions of fans around the world and has sold millions upon millions of albums. You can’t get more mainstream than Swift. It’s not possible. And yes, dudes like Taylor Swift. Again, this is not some hidden subgroup that is hidden away. She is arguably the most popular musician on the planet. She’s popular across both genders, which is why she has maintained her influence and power in the industry for so long. You can’t do that with only teenage girls consuming your content.

Secondly, this is a pretty huge stretch to suggest that musical tastes lead to suicide. A five year old kid shouldn’t even have access to the internet without supervision. How is he going to have any idea what people are saying about him unless she tell him?

I understand the broader point about bullying and suicide, which is a very real issue that should be discussed. However, we shouldn’t minimize the real issue by suggesting kids will kill themselves if people mock their musical tastes. People mock mine, which are all over the place, and I’m still rolling through life. At the same time, I throw a jab from time to time and those people are doing just fine in life.

It’s probably more than fair to say that Rose was really stretching here with her little Instagram rant.
