For the second week straight, ABC’s “Roseanne” reboot has been ratings gold. But with the show’s popularity comes added scrutiny of Roseanne Barr herself — and critics are digging deep into the actress’ past to find dirt.
Just two days after the rating-smashing premiere, pictures from a photo shoot Barr did back in 2009 began to circulate again. In the photos, the comedian was dressed as Adolf Hitler.
Kathy Griffin was fired for posting a fake picture of Trump missing his head.
Why is Roseanne not being fired for posting a picture of gingerbread Jews going into an oven while she was dressed as Hitler?@ABC – We’re glad to watch the competition until you do the right thing! pic.twitter.com/Qs7Tvm2kbQ

Dear @Disney @RoseanneOnABC
You are normalizing Roseanne who has a long history of virulent bigotry. She is a stain on your brand. The burned “Jew cookie” Hitler Rosie is eating is a person like my Opa Salomon who was shot in the street by Nazis for being a Jew #BoycottRoseanne pic.twitter.com/TyM9myFrCr— nadinevanderVelde (@nadinevdVelde) March 30, 2018
Bruce Helford, the show’s co-runner, told The Hollywood Reporter that he hopes viewers are able to separate the show from the nine-year-old photos.
“I know that Roseanne is a very staunch supporter of Israel and she has said as much. I imagine there’s probably some amount of parody involved and all that,” Helford said. “I don’t know the context of that so I wouldn’t make a comment on it. My feeling is that people should just watch the show and judge it on its merits. Watch the show without the accompanying background noise.”
Barr initially posed for the photos for the parody magazine “Heeb.”
