President Donald Trump declared that women are being raped at levels “nobody has ever seen before” during a Virginia tax reform roundtable Thursday.

Trump touched on outrage his previous comments on Mexicans caused before saying that women face a higher risk of rape while trying to cross the U.S. border illegally.

WATCH:

“Remember my opening remarks at Trump Tower when I opened, everybody said, ‘Oh, he was so tough.’ and I used the word rape. And yesterday it came out with this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before. They don’t want to mention that. So we have to change our laws. It’s  insanity I don’t — nobody understands what’s going on. so we have to have  a strong border,” Trump said.

Trump accused Mexico of “not sending their best” across the border on the day he announced his candidacy for president and said the country allows drugs, crime and rape to filter through.

“They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you,” he said, pointing at the crowd. “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,” he said previously.
