China reportedly expects loyalty to the Communist Party of China from your head down to your … toes.
The Third Hospital of Peking University in the Chinese capital of Beijing launched a sperm donation campaign Wednesday, but good health isn’t the only requirement for potential donors. Men ages 20 to 45 wishing to donate their sperm for a possible $900 payday must also hold “favorable political ideologies,” the South China Morning Post reported Friday.
Donors must “love the socialist motherland, support the leadership of the Communist Party, be loyal to the party’s cause and be decent, law-abiding citizens, free of political problems,” the relevant hospital notice read, according to AFP.
There is, however, no test for political loyalty, a doctor at the hospital revealed, explaining, “It would be fine as long as you consider yourself suitable.”
Rather than a demand for loyalty, the drive may be a call for those loyal to the party to donate.
With only 23 sperm banks in China, there is a significant shortage in donations. Furthermore, an estimated 20 percent of all donations are ultimately unacceptable. As an added challenge, donors need to provide at least ten donations to ensure that the supply is adequate for artificial insemination.
Families considering in vitro fertilization sometimes have to wait more than a year for a suitable donation.
