A majority of Americans think President Donald Trump is responsible for the current state of the economy, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Fifty-four percent of respondents agreed that Trump is responsible for the economy, while just 34 percent said Obama is responsible. Even 46 percent of Democrats credited Trump with the economy, while just 43 percent of Democrats credited Obama.

These numbers have shifted dramatically from one year ago, when 58 percent of respondents said Obama was responsible for the economy.

A whopping 78 percent of respondents characterized their current economic situation as “excellent” or “good.”

Trump’s first year in office was marked by unprecedented economic gains. While many in the media predicted that the economy would collapse under Trump, the Dow Jones industrial average set 86 new record closing highs and hit four 1000-point milestones in just one year. Trump also oversaw the lowest unemployment rate in 17 years and the highest quarterly growth in three years. (RELATED: Media Predicted Economic Collapse Under Trump — It Didn’t Happen)
