A psychiatrist is warning royal wedding fanatics that they can suffer mental health problems from their obsession with Prince Harry’s pending marriage.

Sue Varma, a psychiatrist and an assistant professor at New York University’s (NYU) Langhorne Medical Center, claimed that obsession with the romanticized story of the upcoming nuptials of American actress Meghan Markle and Prince Harry can have a dire effect on one’s mental well-being, Reuters reported.

“I absolutely don’t have a problem with somebody having an obsession with the royal family. I don’t think that’s the problem in and of itself,” Varma said. The obsession becomes an issue when someone starts focusing on the royal family over spending time with a loved one.

“This is a problem when you’re living in a fantasy world at the expense of creating real relationships,” Varma adds. Obsession with famous people can also cause body dysmorphia due to wanting plastic surgery to look like a celebrity.
