3 US Marines Charged With Rape Of New Orleans College Students

Three U.S. Marines have been charged with sexually assaulting a New Orleans college student and her friend in mid-April, though the trio claim the encounter was consensual.

Lance Corporal Alexander Davenport, 20, and Lance Corporal Jared Anderson, 18, each face one count of first-degree rape while Private First Class Antonio Landrum, 18, faces one count of third-degree rape, CNN reported Sunday. Police say the victims left a New Orleans bar with Landrum in the early morning of April 15. Both of the women were intoxicated.

They proceeded to the home of one of the women, at which point Landrum also invited some friends to her residence, according to police affidavits. The two friends were Anderson and Davenport, and the woman claimed she had consensual sex with one of them and non-consensual sex with the other.

The second woman claimed she and her friend had consensual sex with Landrum but that when she began to black out from over-intoxication, other men – Anderson and Davenport – came into the bedroom and allegedly raped her.

Both Anderson and Landrum told police that the entire encounter was consensual, while Davenport declined to make a statement. Davenport’s bond is the highest at $100,000, while Anderson’s is $50,000 and Landrum’s is $25,000. Police are also seeking to arrest 22-year-old Matthew Farrell on rape charges as he is alleged to have been in the residence as well, Reuters reported. Farrell is not in the Marine Corps.

“The Marine Corps is aware of the alleged incident that may have involved Marines stationed here. We cannot comment on specific details due to the ongoing investigation by the Marine Corps Police Department and New Orleans Police Department. We take all allegations of this nature seriously and we are fully cooperating with authorities,” Chief Warrant Officer Georgi Hernandez-McCloud of the Marine Forces Reserve said in a statement.
