Meghan McCain closed out ABC’s “The View” on Friday by telling the audience that she hadn’t been fired. “I’ll be back here on Tuesday, I’m not fired, please stop saying that!”

McCain, who has increasingly been splitting her time between New York and Arizona, explained that she would be missing Monday’s show in order to spend more time at home with her father, Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“I’m not going to be here on Monday, I’ve been going back and forth to Arizona. I just want to give a little update. Thank you for the patience of the audience, for understanding. Sometimes you just want to be with your family. I’ll be back here on Tuesday, I’m not fired, please stop saying that.”

The 81-year-old senator is recovering from surgery and an infection that resulted from cancer treatments, and has indicated in a recently released excerpt from his new book, “The Restless Wave,” that his current term will be his last.
