Somerset Sheriff’s Deputy Cpl. Eugene “Gene” Cole was killed while on patrol in Maine last week. He had done 13 years of service to the state of Maine before he was involved in a shooting that took his life.

The shock incident in the typically peaceful area has stunned residents and fellow law enforcement officers alike.

Family along with thousands of friends and fellow officers gathered Monday to honor the memory of Cole in a local arena. State police vehicles lined the road as Cole’s remains traveled toward the arena.
