Fox News’ Tucker Carlson battled a former Hillary Clinton campaign staffer Monday over the scope of Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion.

WATCH:

Carlson, who also co-founded The Daily Caller, attacked Mueller’s motives and suggested that the special counsel is more interested in how to remove the president from office than he is in following the facts of the case.

“It’s a question, very specifically, about whether or not officials in the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to skew the election,” Carlson explained. “There’s no evidence of that, there’s no suggestion that happened. This whole thing is a crock designed to do what impeachment is designed to do — to take out a president.”

Joel Payne, a Clinton campaign staffer, complained that President Trump is “not cooperating” with Mueller and continues to attack the investigation on Twitter.

“Oh, poor Bob Mueller,” Carlson laughed.

“I’m upset about the fact that we have a president we can’t trust in front of a grand jury or in front of an investigative panel, that we can’t trust that he can tell the truth to have a straightforward conversation,” Payne argued.

“I don’t know how many lawyers you know…would you talk to the FBI if you weren’t compelled to?” Carlson retorted. “Not one of them will say yes because they are terrified of what we were just talking about, getting busted on a perjury charge for misspeaking to a federal agent.”
