Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell took a shot Wednesday on a hostile Republican candidate, Don Blankenship, who lost in the West Virginia Senatorial election Tuesday.

“Didn’t seem to work out well, did it?” McConnell told reporters on Capitol Hill in regard to Blankenship’s bid.

As for the overall outcome of the election, McConnell stated the results “worked out very well. We’ve got a nominee that can win in November.” (Related: Don Blankenship Credits Trump With Helping Him Lose WV)

Blankenship released a campaign ad that targeted McConnell, calling him “Cocaine Mitch” and “Swamp Captain, and saying McConnell “has created millions of jobs for China people.”

After the West Virginia election results, McConnell’s Senate campaign team tweeted a sarcastic photo directed at Blankenship’s failed campaign. (RELATED: McConnell Trolls Blankenship On Twitter After Primary Loss)

The Senate GOP is hoping to defend a 51-49 majority during 2018 midterm elections.
