White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah shut down questions about Kelly Sadler’s John McCain comments during the Monday briefing.

Sadler came under fire after making an insensitive comment about McCain dying of brain cancer during a private meeting last week. The White House aide later called the McCain family to apologize, but reporters asked during the Monday briefing if she would apologize publicly and how the matter was being handled.

Shah repeatedly told reporters that, despite being leaked to the press, the comments were an “internal matter” and were being handled internally.

“This is an internal matter, it’s being handled internally, and I don’t have anything else to add,” Shah said after several questions about the issue.

“Can you explain how it’s being addressed internally?” CNN’s Pamela Brown pressed.

Shah responded with some sass, “Obviously, if I explain all that, then it won’t remain internal.”

“She is still an employee here at the White House, she came to work today,” he added. “She has addressed it with the family directly and I don’t have anything further to add.”
