Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis praised President Donald Trump’s tough stance on China and said he wants to give the commander-in-chief some breathing room to make good trade deals.
“I know that there’s been a lot of talk about this ZTE company and clearly that that is an economic issue but it is also, without question, a security issue,” DeSantis, a Republican who is running for governor, told Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business Friday. “I just have confidence in President Trump. I mean, if there’s ever been one political figure certainly a president, who has been tough on China, not just since he’s been a candidate and been president, but for years and years, it’s him.” (RELATED: Ron DeSantis Thinks He Knows Who Was Spying On Trump Campaign)
DeSantis said Trump is looking for the best deal possible and is focusing more on the bigger picture than immediate results.
“I think he’s looking to drive a good bargain for the United States,” DeSantis concluded. “I don’t want to get out and say oh well, he shouldn’t do this, shouldn’t do that. Because I think he’s looking at a bigger picture here. So I want to give him runway to try to negotiate a good deal for the country.”
