The suspect who yelled “anti-Trump” sentiments and opened fire at the Trump National Doral Golf Club on Friday morning has been identified.
According to police, 42-year-old Doral resident Jonathan Oddi entered the resort, draped an American flag over the counter, and began spraying bullets into the lobby. (RELATED: Man Arrested After Shooting At Trump Doral Golf Club)
“This guy was ready for war. He was waiting for our officers to come in,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told local radio station 610 WIOD.
Oddi was reportedly “yelling and spewing some information about President Trump,” which Perez said was “anti-Trump sentiment.”
Police were alerted to an active shooter around 1:30 a.m., and when they arrived on scene, they exchanged gunfire with Oddi and eventually took him down. Oddi is in custody and is being treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds.
“It appears he was trying to engage our police officers … in some type of ambush-style attack,” Perez asserted. “He didn’t succeed and he did lose, that’s the bottom line.”
He then added, “In my opinion, they probably saved a hell of a lot of lives today, because this could have gone a lot worse.”
One officer sustained minor injuries during the incident but is in “good condition.”
