The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame unveiled a plaque honoring soccer star Brandi Chastain that looks nothing like her.
“It’s not the most flattering,” Chastain said during the ceremony, according to ESPN. “But it’s nice.”

And she was not alone. Some on Twitter laughed that the visage looked more like Gary Busey or Mickey Rooney.
I don’t know about Brandi Chastain, but they nailed Mickey Rooney. pic.twitter.com/wfSb7irMbx

I could make a list of 50 people this plaque looks like and none of them are Brandi Chastain https://t.co/fiBp2kUj9A

Brandi Chastain is one of the most beautiful athletes I’ve ever covered. How this became her plaque is a freaking embarrassment for BASHOF. Makes Cristiano’s look perfect. pic.twitter.com/hta6c0cmSo

What’d Brandi Chastain do to deserve this?! pic.twitter.com/WE5Xz2NZZG

I’m convinced they used Gary Busey as the model for Brandi Chastain’s plaque: pic.twitter.com/b899je3Aym

Brandi Chastain has won a World Cup and gold medals but her greatest achievement is smiling graciously next to this whackass plaque pic.twitter.com/YzGda3g4vF

Hall of fame vice president Anthony Savicke told the San Jose Mercury News that there was no plans to re-do the plaque and that they are only supposed to be “representations” of the person, not an identical likeness.
Chastain is most well-known as the player who tore off her jersey after scoring the game-winning penalty kick during the 1999 Women’s World Cup final.
