House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a CNN town hall Wednesday that she would have left Congress had Hillary Clinton won the 2016 presidential election, but because Donald Trump won, she had to stay to protect the Affordable Care Act.

A member of the audience who is a teen cancer survivor and who lost a member of her family to cancer asked Pelosi how she plans on ensuring “health care as a human right and not just through the midterm elections.”

Pelosi described the Affordable Care Act as a “compromise” and that “our goal is that everyone will have access to affordable care.”

She also elaborated on her reason for staying in Congress after the 2016 presidential election.

“One of the reasons I stayed, I saw that we had Democratic president, a woman at the table, I could go home, be with my nine grandchildren,” Pelosi said. “But we didn’t win, there wasn’t a woman at the table. But more importantly, I knew I had to stay there to protect the Affordable Care Act, and that is my mission.”
