President Trump slammed NFL players who knelt during the national anthem saying that maybe they “shouldn’t be in the country,” in a Thursday morning appearance on Fox & Friends.

“Some breaking news when you were in there — the NFL’s made a decision that means a lot to you and a lot of other Americans. The NFL owners have voted unanimously to approve a new National Anthem rule that says if you’re not going to stand, stay in the locker room. If you go to the field, you have to stand. If you have a protest, your team is going to get fined. This is the first time you’re hearing this. What’s your reaction, Mr. President?” Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade asked.

“Well, I think that’s good,” Trump said. “I don’t think people should be staying in the locker rooms, but still I think it’s good. You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem. You shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there. Maybe they shouldn’t be in the country.”

“You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem and the NFL owners did the right thing with that if that’s what they’ve done.”

Players also have the option of staying in the locker room when the anthem is played. (RELATED: NFL Announces Proposed Penalty For Kneeling For Anthem – The Fans Are Pissed)
