CNN is sticking by its reporting in the wake of a letter to the network from Morgan Freeman after he said an article citing several women accusing him of sexual misconduct is false.

A CNN spokesperson said the accusations from Freeman’s lawyer were “disappointing” in a statement provided to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“The unfounded accusations made by Mr. Freeman’s lawyer are disappointing and are difficult to reconcile with Mr. Freeman’s own public statements in the aftermath of the story. CNN stands by its reporting and will respond forcefully to any attempt by Mr. Freeman or his representatives to intimidate us from covering this important public issue,” the statement reads in full.

Since the CNN story broke — with eight women accusing the A-list actor of sexual impropriety — Freeman has apologized but also had his lawyer fire back at the reporting. (RELATED: Morgan Freeman Accused Of Sexual Misconduct By Multiple Women. Here’s What We Know)

“At a minimum, CNN immediately needs to issue a retraction and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels, and with the same level of attention, that it used to unjustly attack him on May 24,” the letter read.
