Roseanne Barr issued an excuse for her bizarre episode on Tuesday, during which she sent out an array of inflammatory tweets about Chelsea Clinton, George Soros, and former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.
On Wednesday morning, Roseanne issued a tweet saying, “guys I did something unforgivable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting — it was memorial day too — i went 2 far & do not want it defended — it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but…don’t defend it please.”
In a later tweet, she blamed Ambien again, saying “Not giving excuses for what I did(tweeted) but I’ve done weird stuff while on ambien — cracked eggs on the wall at 2am etc.”
Both tweets have since been deleted. But not before half the internet caught it and got “Ambien” trending on Twitter.
So Ambien’s parent company, Sanofi, fired back hours later in a statement.
“People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world,” the statement reads on Twitter. “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”

Roseanne has not responded to much of the backlash since tweeting about Ambien, only saying “thanks for all your kind comments, everyone! Love u all goodnight,” earlier on Wednesday morning.
