Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz blasted Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia probe in an interview Wednesday.

The former Utah congressman called Sessions “worthless” and said he was “attorney general in name only” on “America’s Newsroom.” Chaffetz’s criticism comes after President Donald Trump took a shot at Sessions in a Wednesday tweet, quoting Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina.

“Jeff Sessions is the attorney general in name only. He is worthless,” Chaffetz responded. “The sooner the president names a new attorney general the better. He should never have recused himself. He didn’t need to in a counter intelligence operation.” (RELATED: Jason Chaffetz Blasts Sessions, Time For Him ‘To Go’)

This was not Chaffetz’s first time criticizing Sessions. He called for Sessions to leave the Department of Justice in December 2017.

“It pains me to say this a little bit, [but] I don’t think the attorney general is up to the job he’s doing,” Chaffetz said at the time. “The reason there is a special counsel is because he had to recuse himself from everything. I think it’s time for the Attorney General to go.”
