Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney revealed who he voted for in the 2016 presidential election — and it was neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump.
It was his wife.
“I wrote in the name of a person who I admire deeply, who I think would be an excellent president,” Romney told the Utah Desert News Wednesday, revealing that he wrote-in his wife Ann Romney’s name for the presidential vote.
He added that the presidential election “wasn’t going to go anywhere, but nonetheless felt that I was putting in a very solid name.”
Romney and Trump had a hostile relationship during the 2016 presidential campaign. The former governor harshly criticized then-Republican candidate Trump during his campaign, calling him a “phony” and a “fraud.” However, as a household Republican name, Romney was just as averse to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, saying in 2015, “I think people wonder — can they really trust Hillary Clinton?”
Romney is now running for U.S. Senate in Utah and looks to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch.
