House Speaker Paul Ryan continues to raise big money for the GOP in Ohio.

Ryan raised $700,000 on a tour last week through Ohio, with stops in Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The fundraisers included appearances by Ohio state Rep. Troy Balderson, a Republican who is running for the open 12th congressional district seat, and GOP incumbent Rep. Steve Chabot of Ohio’s first district.

Ryan’s tour may have been an effort to boost Chabot’s fundraising numbers. Chabot’s PAC raised $618,906.39 in comparison to his Democratic opponent Aftab Pureval’s $747,854.03. (RELATED: GOP Leads In Reuters Generic Ballot Poll After Double Digit Leads By Democrats In April)

Legally, however, the tour was simply for the GOP in general. “Speaker Ryan was thrilled to spend time [in Ohio] this week to emphasize the importance of electing Republicans and keeping our House majority working for the American people,” Jake Kastan, deputy executive director for Ryan’s political team told The Columbus Dispatch.

The speaker raised $54 million in the 2018 election cycle as of April 9, giving $40 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to Politico.
