Kansas Republican Rep. Ron Estes is being challenged by another man named Ron Estes.
Ron M. Estes, the incumbent’s Republican challenger, is a first-time candidate from Wichita. “I love the people of Kansas, and our current representative is an embarrassment,” his campaign website states. The website dubs the candidate as “The Real Ron Estes.”
The incumbent Ron Estes won a special election in April to replace current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who at the time resigned to become Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. “This is clearly an attempt to deceive Kansas voters,” incumbent Estes spokesman Josh Bell told The Wichita Eagle regarding the primary challenge. “Kansans know that Congressman Ron Estes is fighting for them in Washington.”
