President Trump mentioned a veteran named Steven Cooper during his Wednesday remarks before signing a bill to reform the Veterans Administration.

“With us today are many brave veterans who endured the grave injustice, including Steve Cooper and Laura Villa. They served their country with honor only to be denied the medical treatment they desperately needed. To Steve and Laura, no one should suffer what you suffered. They suffered gravely,” Trump said.
Cooper won a lawsuit against a Veterans Administration hospital in March 2017.
“U.S. Magistrate Judge Michelle Burns ruled a nurse practitioner who found abnormalities in Steven Harold Cooper’s prostate during an examination in late 2011 at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center had breached the standard of care by failing to order more testing and refer him to a urologist.
Instead, Cooper learned 11 months later from a VA doctor in Gilbert that he had stage-IV prostate cancer.”
Cooper said, “I felt absolutely betrayed by my country that I served for 18 years when all I was seeking was basic healthcare.”
