A Marine standing guard outside the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C., was hospitalized Friday after reportedly shooting himself by mistake.

The Marine, who has not yet been identified, accidentally discharged his firearm outside the Marine Corps Barracks and Commandant’s House, leaving him with one gun shot wound, Fox News reported.

Marine Corps spokeswoman Capt. Colleen McFadden told Fox News that the wound was “self-inflicted” and that the marine is now in “stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.”

The Marine was taken to George Washington University Hospital where he will receive treatment. (RELATED: Reporter Vs. Marine: The Breaching Challenge)
