Almost 60,000 Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients with criminal records have been allowed to remain in the United States under the protection of the Obama-era program, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Fox News cited a DHS report stating 59,786 DACA recipients have been placed under arrest during their time in the U.S. That is almost eight percent of all “dreamers” who have received clearance to remain in America. (RELATED: Sen. Tom Cotton Talks Tough To Parents Of DACA Children)

The stats don’t specify how many of those people were actually convicted and doesn’t cite cases where charges were altered or dropped, according to Fox News.

The report does show 4,500 of the DACA recipients were charged with crimes related to assault or battery, while 830 were arrested for sex crimes that included sexual abuse and rape. Ten of the immigrants were arrested for murder.
A DHS spokesman told Fox News the department released these statistics as a response to an inquiry from Congress, which was seeking more information on DACA recipients and their criminal background.
