Whoopi Goldberg said Melania Trump should “check who her people are” because someone must have “set her up” with the jacket that read, “I Really Don’t Care. Do U?”

The comment came during a panel discussion on “The View” Monday as the co-hosts were discussing whether or not the first lady was trying to send a message when she wore the green jacket with the message written across the back during her trip to the border to view centers where children were being held that had been temporarily separated from their parents who had crossed the border illegally.

“She doesn’t have any friends,” Sunny Hostin claimed.  “Like, you know? She doesn’t have close friends on her team because, you know, sometimes you may want to make a statement, wear something, and you have that friend that’s like, ‘don’t wear that, girl. don’t do it.'”

“I have defended Melania and defended Melania and defended Melania. I can’t stand this. I think it’s crazy,” Meghan McCain shared. “I don’t care what message she is trying to send to the president or anyone else. It’s inappropriate. The whole point of being first lady is that we care. We are here because we care. I disagree vehemently with a majority of the people in this room, but we have to care about what’s going on in the country. The message is horrible.”

“They all can talk about how this administration is tone-deaf, but this is literally deaf. This is so tone-deaf that you can’t hear at all,” Joy Behar interjected.

Goldberg then explained that somebody had to have “set her up” to let her wear the jacket.

“But here’s the thing. She should — she should check who her people are, because there is no way they could have missed this coming down the airplane,” Goldberg shared.

“Everything the first lady wears is political,” McCain responded. “That’s the whole point of it. When you are wearing certain designers, like Jackie O’ not wearing an American designer was controversial at the time.”

“Somebody set it up,” Goldberg replied. “Somebody set her up. Somebody … whether they are pissed at her or pissed at the husband…someone let her do that.”

“It’s the first thing she’s ever done that has changed my opinion of her,” McCain interjected.

“Don’t let us find out that you did that on purpose,” Goldberg responded. “That would be so — we would have to actually talk about you.”
