U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent Robert Rodriguez realized they came across a smuggler, yelled “Look, there’s a smuggler!” and chased after him.
They were on a small dirt trail along the northern bank of the Rio Grande near McAllen, Texas.
The smuggler was able to evade the border security agent by hopping back on his raft and paddling away from the shore.
“I cannot go into the river to apprehend him. As long as he goes back south, I’m alright,” agent Rodriguez stated.
