Environmentalists and other critics of the White House had a field day when President Donald Trump announced that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned from his position.
Pruitt’s critics took to social media on Thursday to display their pleasure with the news that Pruitt — a man who led an enormous rollback of Obama-era environmental regulations — is leaving the EPA following months of controversy. Good riddance to a locust named Scott Pruitt. Sadly for those of you in Congress who enabled his rampage by abdicating your duty, this departure closes the door on your opportunity for redemption. You’ve set a new bar for government ethics, and we‘d need shovels to fall below it.

A number of Democratic officials also roasted Pruitt, claiming him to be the worst EPA leader in history and calling for more Trump administration resignations.
Scott Pruitt was the worst EPA administrator in the history of the agency. Not only has he acted, time and time again, in an unethical manner, but he has led the agency in exactly the wrong direction. https://t.co/iRUR6sST5e

Scott Pruitt’s time in leadership has long been up. He made a mockery of public service and undermined the important work of the EPA. No President should reward loyalty over honesty and integrity. https://t.co/N8x7GdfTm2

Andrew Wheeler, a former lobbyist and lawyer, will serve as the acting administrator for the EPA.
