An Ohio man was sentenced to six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to accusations of attempting to provide material to support the Islamic State in June 2017.

Aaron Travis Daniels admitted that he tried to board an aircraft from Ohio to Libya in order to provide ISIS members with materials that would support their cause. Joint Terrorist Task Force (JTTF) agents arrested the Columbus resident in November 2016, just before he got onto the flight, and a federal grand jury indicted him later that month. He was sentenced to 80 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Edmund Sargus and ordered to a lifetime of court supervision after he’s released from prison, Fox News reported.

“Identifying, thwarting and holding accountable individuals who attempt to provide material support to foreign terrorist organizations is a top priority of the Department of Justice,” acting U.S. Assistant Attorney General Dana Boente said in a 2017 DOJ statement.

Authorities said Daniels wired $250 to an ISIS operative in January 2016. Daniels told an informant he was traveling overseas to commit violence. (RELATED: Ohio Man Pleads Guilty For Providing Support To ISIS)

Daniels reportedly stuck a plea deal in June 2017 and avoided the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
