President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, characterized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election as the “most corrupt investigation” he’s ever seen.

“This is the most corrupt investigation that I’ve ever seen. I‘ve never seen an investigation with texts from FBI agents, now seven of them, that have such extraordinary bias against a person,” Giuliani told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

The former New York City mayor is referring to texts from FBI agents that show political bias against the president. The Daily Caller News Foundation published 49 pages of text messages in April between FBI special agent Peter Strzok and FBI counsel Lisa Page. (RELATED: Read The Strzok – Page Texts In Full)

Strzok was the chief investigator during the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and, notably, watched over the FBI’s investigation into Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election. Strzok is set to appear next week before House committees in a series of public hearings.

Giuliani, notably, did not completely leave out the possibility that the president would testify before Mueller’s team — a topic that some former Trump attorneys left the White House over, believing the president should not sit for an interview. Giuliani backed up his claim with a statement that, after months of investigating, he cannot find a single piece of incriminating evidence against the president. “We can’t find an incriminating anything, and we need a basis for this investigation, particularly since we now know it was started from biased — by biased,” Giuliani told ABC Sunday.

Giuliani did not say that Mueller himself was biased, simply that he has surrounded himself with biased people.

Stephanopoulos asked the president’s attorney whether or not Michael Cohen, a longtime friend and lawyer for the Trump family, plans to cooperate with the Mueller team. Cohen sent signals in an interview last week with ABC that he has no plans to go along with the Mueller probe at this point.

Giuliani said Sunday he isn’t concerned that Cohen won’t cooperate, but said he would back Cohen in whatever he decides is the best course of action.

“We want Michael to handle this in a way that’s most helpful to him. Michael’s not going to lie, he’s going to tell the truth. Long as he does that, we have nothing to fear,” Giuliani said, adding that “as long as he tells the truth, we’re home free.”

“If he wants to cooperate, I think it’s great,” Giuliani said. “I know Michael. He has no evidence of, nor was he involved in anything untoward with the president.”
