Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) believes “five or six” Democrats will vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, but told Fox News Wednesday that it would only occur if every one of his Republican colleagues also supports President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.

“We can’t count on any Democrats until we get the 50 votes we need, and then we’ll get five or six of them, otherwise I don’t think we can count on them,” Grassley told “Fox & Friends.” (RELATED: Chuck Grassley Connects Dossier Dots)
Republicans hold a slim Senate majority, controlling 50 seats against the Democrats’ 49, with Senator John McCain unable to vote amid battling brain cancer.
Grassley added that “there would have to be something very dramatically go wrong” for Republican senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski not to support Kavanaugh, “as highly qualified as he is, and as he sees interpreting the law and not making law.”

Democrats representing states where Trump won handedly in 2016 — Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Joe Manchin of West Virginia — voted last year in favor of the president’s first nominee, Neil Gorsuch.
