A woman claimed that an armpit microwaving treatment helped her stop excessively sweating, according to Cosmopolitan magazine Thursday.

Samantha Netkin, an assistant social media editor at Delish, claimed that getting a Food and Drug Administration-approved armpit microwaving treatment lowered her excessive sweating condition known as hyperhidrosis, she wrote in Cosmopolitan magazine. The treatment known as MiraDry is advertised as a way to permanently erase armpit sweat, odor and even underarm hair. The product uses heat waves that go up to 140-degrees and goes directly into an underlayer of the skin as well as using a cooling device on the top layer of skin to eliminate the skin from burning, according to MiraDry’s website. The is performed by a dermatologist. (RELATED: The Skin Tightener Every Man Should Own, Period)

“While I’m sure there are some people who have it much worse, I’ve never been able to shake the insecurities that surround my hyperhidrosis, the clinical name for sweating more than necessary to keep your body cool,” Netkin wrote as a motivating factor to undergoing the procedure. MiraDry ended up costing her $1,500. Netkin claimed the procedure felt like pricks and resulted in swelling and lumps.

However, three months following the procedure, Netkin reaped positive results.

“While my swelling and lumps have vanished, my sweating hasn’t gone away completely,” she wrote. “That said, it has diminished significantly, to the point where I only feel a little bit of wetness on really hot days — and don’t even need deodorant to fend off odor, though I still wear it to smell nice.”

The procedure did not completely cure her, but Netkin said she would not do it again due to the pain.
