President Donald Trump clarified his stance on Russia’s election meddling after broad outrage over his comments made during the Helsinki, Finland, summit with Vladimir Putin Monday. Trump was criticized for not being more forceful with the Russian leader and for not backing up U.S. intelligence findings of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump asserted that he misspoke during the summit and believes the U.S. intelligence finding which states the Russians meddled in the 2016 election.”I have on numerous occasions noted our intelligence findings that Russia attempted to interfere in our elections,” Trump told the press pool at the White House. “We will do anything to prevent that interference in 2018.”
During the short briefing, Trump reiterated that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia. The president made sure to do so according to some hand-written notes on his printed statement. The sentence “THERE WAS NO COLUSION” was written out in black marker along with a note saying “TAXES 2 POINT 0 – PERMANENT MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUTS.”
The internet took note that the word collusion was misspelled.
