White House counselor Kellyanne Conway defended President Donald Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, pointing out the foibles of his predecessor, in a Wednesday morning interview on “Fox & Friends.”

Conway referenced former President Barack Obama getting caught on a hot mic while speaking with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev before the 2012 presidential election. Obama assured Medvedev he would have “flexibility” after his election to give concessions, which ignited a firestorm of criticism at the time.

“Donald Trump was not caught with a hot mic he went and lad a bilateral conference with Putin,” she declared.

Conway also responded to Obama’s Tuesday speech in which he lamented increased lying by politicians as a general trend, citing his past promises on his signature health care legislation.

“He might have called everybody irredeemable and deplorable,” the White House counselor explained. “I thought that was very unfortunate. I do agree that lots of leaders and double down on lies. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor; if you like your plan, you can keep your plan. Upwards 30 million Americans still don’t have health insurance eight years after Obama care was passed.”
